$20USD!
Apple announced a $20 software upgrade for its iPod touch that adds Mail, Maps, Stocks, Weather and Notes applications, ie, the iPhone Apps, to the device. The iPod touch software upgrade also includes new features such as Web Clips, a customizable home screen and beginning today, the ability to watch iTunes Movie Rentals.
Yawn ….
The iTunes Movie Rental is only available for US residence so this new functionality is useless for us outside La La Land.
The ability to customize the Home Screen (aka Springboard) is nothing new to Jailbroken iPod touch users. We have been customizing it with Customize.
Overall this software upgrade is welcomed by new non-jailbroken users. The apps should have been in iPod touch when it was originally launch last September.
Oh well… better late then never. (Update: Not everone share my view. Here’s what DIGG users have commented. Warning: Strong languages).
I have a girl friend who bought the iPod touch yesterday. Yes, less then 12 hours before the upgrade annoucement was made. She have to pay for the Apps. She’s not happy. She can’t even buy the upgrade since there isn’t an Apple Online Store for Singapore!
