[Jan 29 Update] The post is no longer valid as the linked content have changed. Please use this definitive method to jailbreak correctly instead.

Barely 24 hours after Nate True posted his 1.1.3 jailbreak method, iPodTouchMaster05 posted another method that I understand is built upon Nate’s work but requires no computer! That’s sweet news for those of you having PowerPC Mac only, and users of other OSes such as Linux and Windows. No more Intel-Mac envy! 🙂

My iPod touch is already jailbroken so I’ll try this method some other time. Basically you add a new installer source, and perform Nate’s method entirely on the iPod touch with an app! So simple!

But.

Yes, there’s a but.

It requires a jailbroken iPod touch running 1.1.2 firmware. And there lies a big problem for some iTunes 7.6 users — they can’t jailbreak to 1.1.2!

So, it’s your call which method you pick. The end result is the same; hours of fun with your jailbroken iPod touch!

Get ready to wiggle!

  1. Lol.

Technically speaking the iPod touch is a computer than runs on Mac OS X.

  2. Good for me. My MacBook is in the shop! Thanks for the link.

  3. Ya! Mac FTW!!!

  4. Doesn’t work! Adding the source doesn’t add any new Categories (Jailbreak 1.1.3).

@Rupert: Great site, thx for all!

  5. Sorry, it may work. But the page is down for now…

  6. I’m still hanging here…do you think someone will eventually develop a way to get around the iTunes 7.6 problem?

  7. Here’s something odd. Earlier tonight I double clicked the home button on my jailbroken 1.1.3 iPod Touch and brought up the iPhone favorite screen complete with the Keypad button and voicemail button (only the keypad worked). I’m not able to replicate it yet, but that sure is strange.

  8. They changet the repos address. Now it’s
    http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml

    works fine now.

  9. If you have iTunes 7.6 it is possible to downgrade to 1.1.1 on your Touch to start the Jailbreak process. Just plug your Touch in to iTunes. After it sees the Touch, press and hold the power and home buttons on the Touch until it shuts off and then release the power button but still hold the home button until iTunes sees it again. You will now be in restore mode and can downgrade to 1.1.1 provided you have already have a copy. Just Shift+click restore in iTunes for a Windows PC, or Control+click on a Mac. [RupertGee edit – it’s Option+Click on a Mac]

From there it’s just as it always has been.

  10. Ha ha Dan.

That must be fun. On our iPod touch, Homing twice should have brought up the special Play menu.

Wish you had screen captured that!

  11. @PiercedMember: Sorry it’s not as it always has been. I couldn’t jailbreak to 1.1.2 with iTunes 7.6.

But i jailbreaked to 1.1.1 an then to 1.1.3 with the method ruperd described first. That was easy.

Good luck to all of you 😉

  12. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD.I have tried twice. It causes your iPod to get stuck up and then when you try to restart it after 2 – 3 hours patiently the Apple logo comes then the screen blanks out immediately thus happens again and again. Some times the spring board keeps crashing continuesly.

If you experience such a problem do not panic. Simply connect your iPod to the latest version of iTunes. Try to put your iPod into the recovery mode by pressing the lock and home buttons simultaneously, when the screen blacks out keep holding the home but leave the lock button. Try this again and again until your iTunes detects your iPod on the recovery mode. Sometimes when the Apple logo comes but the iPod keeps restarting then you keep holding the home button and that will do the trick. Restore it to 1.1.3 and re-sync the entire library.

Same here; I simply can’t use iTunes 7.6 to jailbreak to 1.1.2.

Fortunately Nate True method works for a jailbroken 1.1.1. Everything “new” works as advertised… the wiggling icons, the web clip etc.

The only problem is playing tunes I bought from the iTunes Store. None is playable! Luckily cracking the DRM is not difficult.

Oh, thanks for the new source; the old one was overwhemled and google temporarily halted its service. 🙂

  16. Hey Pablo, you can always backup your iPod touch’s important files so that you can easily restore it.
