I often get this error message after attempting to Restore my iPod touch.

“The application “so-and-so” was not installed on the iPod “name-of-iPod” because an unknown error occured (0xE800002E)”

Fortunately it’s easy to fix. Just go to the “Applications” tab in iTunes to un-tick and de-select the App. Then click the Apply button which will remove the App from your device (note 1). After that, go back to the same tab and tick to re-select the App, and click Apply again to re-install it into your device.

Works everytime!

Note 1: Unfortunately the Application’s data will be removed too!

  1. Hello Rupert!

Hey, have you been experiencing some freezing problems?

Sometimes my iTunes would simply freeze (with that rainbow ball mouse cursor), and after unplugging my iPod it would come back to normal – but would freeze again when plugged back in.

If I reset my iPod, the iPod freezes – the dread Apple logo keeps showing on the screen. Then I have to restore from backup but it takes like 5-6 hours to do so…

Anyway to fix that? By the way, running 2.0.2 and it’s not jailbroken. Thanks!

  2. Hey Rupert,
It’s been a while since I jailbroke my ipod touch and I was wondering if it was still worth it. I hear about Installer 4 but it’s still beta and all the cool apps like Sketches are now in the app store. Is it still worth it?

  3. >Hi Mr J

I feel it’s still worthwhile to jailbreak 2.0, especially since it’s soooooo easy to do so with QuickPwn.

Having the 2.0 Installer is not the main reason for doing jailbreaking. Afterall, most apps are available at the App Store. In fact, the Installer is in a sorry state. There aren’t much apps in it! Cydia is actually the preferred “installer” now; at least its app selection is larger.

We jailbreak so we could get inside the iPod touch… to do things Apple won’t let us, such as applying Theme, manipulate the files, and install apps that Apple ban from the App Store.

2 days ago firmware 2.1 was released but we can’t jailbreak it yet. However, I’m contemplatinmg upgrading to 2.1 just to play with its new functions, even though that means I can’t apply my Gee theme, and lose a couple of jb-only apps, since we can’t jailbreak 2.1 yet.

Nevertheless, if you are still on 1.1.x firmware, I highly recommend upgrading and jailbreaking to 2.0.2. There’s very little reason to stay at 1.1.x. 2.x is vastly improved.

Sorry to hear about that. Fortunately my 2.0.2 jailbroken iPod touch has been running fine. The only thing that annoys me is the long backup; an issue I understand foxed in firmware 2.1.

Hey, how about jailbreaking to see if it resolves your iPod touch’s problem? 😛 Of course… we can only jailbreak to 2.0.2.

  5. Rupert,

I am already on the 2.0 firmware and I have had it for while now. But I am still not sure if I want to jailbreak 2.1 with all the cool stuff. Cool apps like iPhysics aren’t still there yet. Please post anything on your website about installer updates or anything from AppTapp. Thanx, Mr. J

  6. There’s a definitive fix that doesn’t require data loss.

Basically, after itunes 8 and iPhone 2.1 a ‘revert to factory’ then ‘restore from backup’ fixes things:

  7. Rupert,

Pwnage Tool for firmware 2.1 is out and I jailbroke my ipod touch with it. Check it out.

    Mr. J

  8. Hi, abit out of the topic here.

But I’ve been wondering for the longest time how to create a 3D effect like the image above (slanted with reflection) without using heavy softwares like CS3 and stuffs?

  9. Wonder no more, sotong. http://www.acqualia.com/picturesque/
